Hungry Soil

Hungry Soil is an artificial reef supporting growth of artificial turf. Spring clips allow each stainless steel wire unit to grasp its neighbour, forming a lightweight matrix. Protruding hooks and latex bladders equipped with hollow needles imply mechanical operations on drifting organic matter: capture, injection, ingestion.

The work was installed in the BCE Place Galleria, Toronto, in the fall of 2000.
